Following a precocious few years in music, Mann’s debut album Roxwell is a tender ode to her formative years, named after the cherished street of her childhood home. An only child, she grew up in West London, writing songs in her bedroom and performing for her parents. “I’m very sentimental and wanted to pay tribute to that house,” she notes. Love is central to Roxwell, as Mann explores its course from infatuation to intimacy to dissolution. Tell Me That I’m Wrong captures the leap into love, while Common Sense navigates the aftermath of a breakup. Despite her emotional songwriting, she approaches feelings with logic and empathy, wrestling with internal conflicts on At the End of the Day and Just Because. Written across locations from her bedroom to the Peak District, Roxwell blends indie folk with new sounds, from Meet Cute’s sultry pop hooks to Say It Back’s punk-inflected frustration. The choral interlude Only So Far Away is dedicated to her father, and final track Girls celebrates childhood friendships. The album closes with a home video of baby Matilda saying, “Goodbye!”, sending Roxwell off with innocence and warmth, as Mann steps into the world with love.
