Sarah Julia’s story is one of pure partnership, bound by shared years, life experiences, style, and sisterhood, extending beyond their musical endeavors. Their creative journey began in theatre as children, later leading to roles in professional musicals, TV shows, and movies before placing third in a TV songwriting contest. A significant change in their family dynamics deepened their songwriting, reflecting on childhood, loss, and change. Collaborating with Jasper Maekelberg, they blended acoustic guitar, harp, double bass, and cello to explore the contrast between childhood’s security and adulthood’s weight. Writing their debut EP How Do We Go Back To Being Normal? amidst grief, they aimed to capture that time as a snapshot, finishing songs quickly to preserve the emotions. Influenced by Phoebe Bridgers, Adrianne Lenker, and Joni Mitchell, their music serves as a vehicle for introspection and connection. Recalling their Rotterdam home and childhood hikes in Scotland on Cairngorms, they seek peace with change and self-acceptance. Their indie-folk sound, centered on acoustic guitar and harmonies, features an all-female band, celebrating strength in a male-dominated industry while showcasing vulnerability and personal connection.
