Valentine’s Day, sometimes called Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, has long been a yearly tradition of showering loved ones with gifts. But did you know our home of East Anglia has a surprisingly long history entwined with the day of love? In fact, the oldest-known valentine written in English was sent from Norfolk in 1477.
Norfolk and Norwich also has a centuries-long Valentine’s tradition involving a character aptly named ‘Jack Valentine’. Under the cover of darkness, Jack Valentine will silently leave small gifts on your doorstep before knocking and hiding.
