Are you getting tired of hearing the same Christmas songs taking over the airwaves each and every year? While we all have love and respect the yuletide classics, we have an antidote to the endless cycle of Mariah, Slade, Wizard et al that might pique your interest. We’ve gathered some of our favourite festive tracks from Latitude’s history, beginning with those joining us in 2025…
Elbow: Golden Slumbers
The original version of Golden Slumbers (by a little-known band called The Beatles) may not have started as a Christmas song, but when Elbow covered the track, which featured in the beloved annual John Lewis Christmas ad in 2017, it gave new life to the beautiful ballad. It’s guaranteed to give you all the festive feelings.
Sigrid: Home To You (This Christmas)
Sigrid’s festive spin on her 2019 ballad ‘Home To You’ makes for cosy wintery listening. Speaking to NME in 2021, of the track she said: “‘Home To You’ has always had a Christmas spirit since we wrote it. It’s about my hometown and the house I grew up in with my family.”
Snow Patrol: When I Get Home for Christmas
For a band with a winter theme right in the name, it’s a surprise that Snow Patrol only have one Christmas themed track under their belt. ‘When I Get Home for Christmas’ is the perfect addition to any indie Christmas playlist.
Sting: The Hounds of Winter
Did you know Sting has an entire winter album? Featuring a blend of original music and traditional folk songs, poems and hymns, ‘If On A Winter’s Night’ provides the perfect backing track for a snowy boxing day walk. We recommend ‘The Hounds of Winter’ in particular.
And not forgetting some big hitters of Latitude’s past…
Pretenders: 2000 Miles
We know Pretenders’ ‘2000 Miles’ is a staple of the genre, but with Chrissie Hynde’s magical vocals and that instantly recognisable guitar riff, it’d be criminal to ignore.
There are so many more we could rave about, but we’ll let the music speak for itself from here. Take your ears on a festive journey through the ghosts of Latitude past, present and future below…
