In our Latitude Loves… series, we’re chatting to the hottest up and coming acts from the 2022 line up.
In this edition, we meet British-Jamaican singer-songwriter Mahalia. She’ll be playing the BBC Sounds stage on Saturday night.
This is your first time playing Latitude, what are you excited for most?
I’m honestly just most excited to be back at the festival. I love Latitude so much! I used to go there a lot when I was younger with my family and it’s just the best place. It’s most definitely one of my favourite festivals on the planet.
You’ve got a string of festival dates lined up this summer, including in the EU, US and Canada, but what is your favourite thing about UK festivals?
The people, I think. It’s home. Everyone’s just so up for the party – dancing, singing and laughing with me. I love performing at home!
Are there any other acts on the line up you’re looking forward to seeing?
I’m hoping to catch Little Simz! We’ve been at a few festivals together this year and I haven’t been able to catch her set so I’m super excited about that! I loved her latest album and I can’t wait to see some of the songs live.
We love your latest EP, ‘Letter To Ur Ex’ – which song from the EP are you most excited about playing live?
‘Whatever Simon Says’ has been getting such a great response in live shows. It’s been really beautiful seeing people light up to that one. I’m definitely excited to see how that one goes down!
You’re making an appearance on our BBC Sounds Stage on the Saturday, what can punters expect at a Mahalia show?
Ahhh, just a sh*t load of honesty. I talk a lot and laugh a lot at my shows. I like to show people who I am through my music and my personality also. I have a lot to say when I’m not singing!
Hopefully, it’s just a GREAT time ❤
